It feels a bit like I’m spilling the beans on a big secret…
Around the time I was starting up LilMarauder Productions as a way to brand all of the media production and design services I was able to do, I noticed that I’ve spent a lot of time on sixth floors…
two years of college dorm rooms
my long-term Chicago apartment
my office at Loyola University Chicago
I’m never one to ignore a pattern once I see it, and, those years were so filled with creativity and exciting moments where I was defining myself as an individual…and, come on…
6th Floor Studios
sounds AMAZING
So, I made a logo. It was a lot like the logo I made for LilMarauder. This shattered shape of a six, busting out of place…with a few pieces dislodged and looking a set of stairs. The word “floor” is spelled out on a downward angle – hammering home the fact that there are stair steps.
Around that time, I was obsessed with sans serif fonts and intentionally keeping everything lowercase; I was working in higher education, so it felt subversive, but it also wasn’t unprofessional. Even though that was my aesthetic at the time, I remember thinking that “Studios” needed to carry a different kind of visual impact, it needed to look steady and seasoned (but not necessarily traditional). Enter my usual scroll through the thousands of fonts (yes, thousands, I have a dedicated program just to manage them)…and voila!
I had a name, I had a logo…and I had nothing to do with them…
Enter this new spin…
The 6th floor is still filled with creativity and it is still so exciting! I’m so happy that I finally get to share this with you.
